Re: Parallels Greases Wheels for PC-to-Mac Switch

Apple's switch to Intel processors for its computer lines removed a major obstacle to greater adoption of its Macintosh platform among Microsoft Windows users. That's because by throwing its lot in with Chipzilla, it opened up its hardware to run Windows applications and breeched a barrier that many PC users believed to be insurmountable. Apple's move couldn't have come at a better time. While its Intel models began rolling off the assembly line, another trend, virtualization, began to gain traction in corporate environments.

Parallels, Bootcamp and VMware

I have read a number of articles like this one which 'tout' Parallels for running Windows on a Mac.

BTW: I don't consider Bootcamp a serious option for anyone with a requirement for routine use of a Windows environment.

Both Parallels and VMware Fusion offer solutions which run Windows and Mac apps on the same desktop. Although some of the articles imply Windows is running on top of OS X, I believe with either software a more accurate description is that Windows and Mac OS X are running in (on) a virtual machine environment.

A couple of comments suggest that VMware has a lower overhead and fewer glitches than Parallels. On the other hand Parallels 'Switch to Mac' product seems to offer some real value to the Windows user moving to a Mac.

I have a couple of clients I believe could profit from moving from Windows machines to Macs.

Given my limited experience with either Parallels or VMware I would appreciate any comments from people who have used either or both products.

Thanks
