It's not Apple's release of a Windows version of its Safari Web browser that concerns Mozilla COO John Lilly. It's Apple founder Steve Jobs' apparent view of a Web browser market shared, for the most part, by two companies: Apple and Microsoft. In a "John's blog" entry published last Thursday, Lilly expressed unhappiness with Jobs' comments at the recent Apple World Wide Developer Conference, particularly the part where the man from Apple uses pie charts to illustrate the browser scene.

Here are the actual numbers from my logs:
(the spaces used to form the table got discarded)
Browser %of total
Firefox 57.5 %
MS Internet Explorer 27.8 %
Unknown 11.1 %
Safari 1.5 %
Mozilla 0.6 %
Opera 0.4 %
LibWWW 0.3 %
Netscape 0.1 %
BonEcho (Firefox 2.0 dev) 0.1 %
"Unknown" is more popular than Safari, and Firefox has >2:1 edge over MSIE. I don't know where Jobs got his numbers, but I don't offer anything on any of my blogs (nmwoodworks.com) that would appeal to a browser-biased crowd.

Why, in a "Linux Insider" article, is not mentioned, even once, what is the underlying technology of Safari, KDE's KHTML engine, which may just be the best browser engine around?
Sad, even Open source people such as Mozilla foundation chief now resort to marketing and a bit of FUD. (Safari is an OK browser -- Firefox is really good) - Just say both are based on open and free source , which is excellent, thank you very much!
