Patents, patents, patents. Ever since Microsoft announced its suit against TomTom a month or so ago, patents have become an increasing focus of conversation on the Linux blogs. We've already discussed some of the rampant speculation about Microsoft's motivation in the case, as well as TomTom's subsequent countersuit. Now, as of Monday, it turns out TomTom has joined the Open Invention Network -- alongside the likes of IBM, Novell and Red Hat.

Comand Line

I know I'll be beaten for this but the bottom line fact is, if we want to win windoz users over to Linux it must be user friendly...which doesn't include command line. It just won't happen. And while I learned on boxes that wouldn't support GUI 15 years ago I'd hate to try and convince an everyday user that this is the road to take. Many windoz users can't even deal ms crap. And we think we can convince them to make things that don't just work with command line stuff? I have acted like a nubie with 25 or more distros and none would convince me to rely on Linux alone for every day computing. Yes I can make it work but that doesn't convert any windoz users...so go ahead and beat me up but like it or not this be the truth.
