In my recent commentary on the role dishonest and incompetent IT textbooks play in education, I used the acronym PHB (pointy-haired boss) to refer to people who just don't get it with respect to systems. Unfortunately, that also demonstrated that I don't get the global nature of the LinuxInsider readership, because I didn't stop to think that not everybody gets the Dilbert cartoons and so a lot of people wouldn't grok the reference. What makes this doubly embarrassing is that I have a secret vice that, if there were any justice at all, should have made me more sensitive to this kind of idiotism.
So let's see, Mr. Murphy admits he is not smart enough to even "get" the #1 computing platform of today, yet he somehow feels qualified to comment on the political aspects of technology issues and their inevitable worldwide impact?
<p>
Please, spare us, this piece is almost as bad as his last one on US National Security that lamblasted Microsoft with incorrect "facts" while giving open source and Linux a complete free pass.
<p>
If Mr. Murphy intends to achieve ANY level of credibility, espeically on big picture discussions such as the political implications of technology, he'll have to drop his obvious open source zealotry and somehow become more appreciative of both sides of any potential story. Otherwise, he'll continue to expose himself as a one-sided open source shill who can't expand his horizon enough to ever even comprehend an alternative opinion, much less provide legitimate comparative and worthwhile analysis. My guess is he won't "get" this either, since it doesn't align with his own personal political agenda.

Quite right, I don't get people who make assertions
they can't, or won't, support.
