Open source in general, and Unix in particular, appears to be far buggier and less secure than is Microsoft's code in general and Windows XP in particular. You might not believe that, but any count of security vulnerabilities reported since about mid-2001 will lead you to the same conclusion. Mentions of Unix (including Linux, BSD and Solaris) outnumber mentions of Microsoft products by more than two to one across the major security databases.

Odd....when I searched securityfocus.com's exploits the newest linux kernel has only one while Windows XP Home Edition has a LOT.........

Thanks for the article. That needed to be said. I would add that a lot of standard unix utilities where vulnerabilities are found are not even necessarily installed on internet facing desktop linux machines.
Furthermore, diversity of distributions makes the would be target very elusive if it came to building an attack based on a perticular problem.
