Ever since Apple first introduced the MacBook in May of 2006, the decision between the low end and the high end of Apple's laptop line became the most agonizing choice for Mac laptop buyers -- with a couple of caveats, of course. For consumers looking for basic portability and basic computing, there's no problem: the MacBook fits the bill. For professional graphic artists, photographers or on-the-go video editors? Again, no problem: The MacBook Pro is the only way to go. But for prosumers, the deciding factors are as cloudy as a spring day in early March.
I just purchased a Macbook Pro (1st Mac too). After using Windows all of the time, I found it intimidating to use Mac 100% of the time. I even thought of putting Windows on my Mac (how unnatural) to wean myself from Windows but decided what the heck, I will jump in feet first and just work with whatever Apple has to offer. Never looked back. I am happy with my decision and will stay with Mac from now on. Thanks Apple!

I too went through that with the first Intel based laptops from Apple, and at every update since. I've now just bought my second machine after just under 2 years with the first generation MB 13".
This time I went for the same middle model 13" again. My deciding factor was HDTV & gaming. If the MBP had a full HD resolution (1920x1080) then it would have won but as it & the MB are both between that and the lower 1280x720 there's no benefit to the MBP.
As for the gaming, the price difference between MB & MBP is the same as the price of a PS3 which also includes all the function of an Apple TV. And a FullHD/24 Blueray Disc player.
For gaming on the move, even the Quake4 demo (with minimal settings) runs well enough for me on my new MB.
