Re: 10 Days With the Sleek New iPod Touch

We've already seen the basic shape and function of the iPod touch -- Apple introduced the first version of the device a year ago, and its overall shape and wide touchscreen design also reflect the popular iPhone. The company could have left the iPod touch alone, at least through the rest of this holiday season, with little risk that any other media player could seriously challenge it. Instead, Apple added several nice physical refinements, some major software-focused upgrades, and then dropped the price.

a few things...

From what I understand, the metal back of the case functions as the speaker - i.e. there is no internal speaker.

You nailed some of the high points, but I believe the best is yet to come. While many of the current apps are quite useless or of limited use, there is an equal number of excellent applications and games now available: Pandora, Snatch, AroundMe, Movies, Fring, GraphCalc, 21 Pro, and Asphalt 4, to name a few.

I cannot wait to see what developers come up with over the next 12 months.

I don't care what others have said, the display and UI of the iPod Touch and iPhone are second to none in the market. My 3 and 6 year olds were able to use the iPod Touch within minutes to view, play, resize, and otherwise manipulate photos and videos. The controls are that easy to master.

Amazing iPod

There is an internal speaker, though it's hidden in the dock connector and headphone jack, which is why there's no speaker holes (the sound then comes out of the connector and headphone jack, though if these have the USB cable and headphones attached it also reverberates through the metal back like you said).

It is a device that is very easy to learn how to use; it makes me laugh that there was once a 20-something year old on the official Apple boards saying that she had no idea how to use it an that she was mad that Apple didn't include a detailed manual (despite the fact the quick start guide clearly gives the URL to it).
