The ample media coverage of the U.S. release of Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) makes two things clear: It's a great gaming machine but not a great convergence device; and Sony operates a fabulous buzz machine. The PSP will go on sale Thursday at $250, and demand is so high that Sony's initial release of 1 million may be gone almost before it can be stocked on shelves. The company has sold almost 1.2 million PSPs in Japan
since mid-December.

fair enough but the psp is a hugely versatile mobile entertainment system. Ok the umd movies are overpriced and unlikely to take off. But the number of users will only accellerate the recent proliferation of media conversion and management programs and once the homebrew scence gets started we will be able to do all kinds of incredible things.
okay the lack of memory is a problem but it wont be long before a 4gb card is available at reasonable prices which we store a couple of converted movies, a load of mp3s and some gave saves.... and you will probably be able to swap such files over wi-fi with the guys on the train.
dont knock it just yet..
