As Sony and Toshiba jockey for position in the next-generation DVD battle, storage company Iomega looks farther into the future. Sony, backer of the Blu-ray high-definition DVD format, and Toshiba, backer of rival HD-DVD, have been going head-to-head for three years over which format should prevail, but time is running out. HD-DVD products are slated to be released in the fourth quarter and Blu-ray products by mid-year 2006. Sony has said it will include a Blu-ray disc player in its PlayStation3.

Would any body please explain to me following sentence’s exact meaning, I mean, when any DVD is one side and the other side is either printed or labeled, then how it is called double sided?
In short just want to know the meaning of double sided.
“Today's 4.5 GB DVDs (9 GB, double sided) are set to be replaced.”
(By the high-density formats expected by end 2005.)
