Qualcomm Chief Executive Paul Jacobs generally has the latest and greatest cell phones. But he's never owned the uber-trendy Apple iPhone. "Not until they put a Qualcomm chip in it," Jacobs said in a September interview. It could soon be time for Jacobs' first Apple phone. The company is widely rumored to be planning an iPhone nano, a smaller touchscreen version of its popular phone. One industry analyst says it will run on Qualcomm chips. Warner Music Group has started pulling some of its songs from YouTube, a move that apparently reflects a breakdown in the renegotiation of a licensing agreement between the two sides. Warner licensed its entire music catalog to YouTube just before the latter was acquired by search engine powerhouse Google for $1.65 billion a few years ago. [More...]

Apple must allow operators other than France Telecom's Orange to sell its popular iPhone mobile handset, the French competition regulator ruled Wednesday. The decision overturns an exclusive arrangement with Apple that has allowed Orange to be the iPhone's exclusive distributor in France since the phone was launched last year. [More...]

George W. Bush's presidential library domain name has been retrieved after a Web developing company accidentally let it expire -- and it apparently came at a high price. Yuma Solutions originally purchased the name from a private citizen for $3,000 but let it expire. Illuminati Karate snapped it up for less than $10 and then sold it back to Yuma for $35,000. Lenovo Group announced Thursday that it is in preliminary talks on a potential investment opportunity and acquisition in response to recent rumors that it intends to buy a Brazilian company. One of Yahoo's largest shareholders is urging the beleaguered Internet company's board to sell its search assets to Microsoft. Ivory Investment Management, a Los Angeles-based hedge fund, on Wednesday submitted a letter to Yahoo's board proposing a deal whereby Yahoo would sell its search assets to Microsoft. [More...]

If activist investor Carl Icahn is going to profit from his $1.8 billion bet on Yahoo, the billionaire needs the struggling Internet company's stock to more than double in value. Icahn, who muscled his way on to Yahoo's board during the summer, has paid an average of $23.59 per share to accumulate a 5.5 percent stake in the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company, according to a Thursday SEC filing. After surging 7 percent Tuesday on rumors that a former AOL executive wants to acquire Yahoo for as much as $30 billion, the beleaguered Internet portal's shares were down nearly 5 percent at $11.02 per share in mid-day trading on Wednesday but closed flat as the market rallied. Sprint Nextel and Clearwire have joined forces to build a nationwide high-speed wireless Internet network using worldwide interoperability for microwave access, or WiMax, technology. Think "plug and drive," if the mayors of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose and start-up Better Place have their way.
