Way back in 1950, science fiction giant Ray Bradbury wrote a short story, "There Will Come Soft Rains," about a smart house that did just about everything for its resident family -- including cooking breakfast and keeping track of the bills. Unfortunately, all members of that family, along with all inhabitants of the town, were obliterated by a nuclear explosion. The house, though, kept right on going.

Apple might be unfairly blocking rival software makers who want to sell music for its iPhone, according to some rivals and a technology rights group. The iTunes store accounts for four out of five songs sold on the Internet in the United States and is becoming more important as CDs fade. A milestone was reached last month when Atlantic Records announced digital sales had surpassed CD sales.

Chris Wysopal is the head of a four-iPod family. His wife and two kids all carry the pint-size nano music player from Apple, while he uses a 2003-vintage device he got as a hand-me-down from his wife. But as much they love their iPods, the Wysopal family has no plans to buy any new ones in the foreseeable future.

If someone were to ask me what the movie soundtrack for my life would be, I'd have absolutely no idea what I could tell them. I'd probably stutter for a couple minutes trying to think of the songs that summed me up better than any other. When I discovered I couldn't come up with anything, I would probably hand over my iPod and tell them to see for themselves.
