Kevin Willis, the retired basketball center turned entrepreneur, gave up on the BlackBerry and depends on Apple's iPhone to stay in touch with buyers, suppliers and the high-profile clients who wear his custom jeans. "It does everything I need a phone to do for me and my business," said Willis, 46, who left the National Basketball Association last year after more than two decades and now helps run Willis & Walker clothing company in Atlanta. That's just what Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs wants to hear.

Intuit's small-business accounting solution, QuickBooks, has gotten more than just a pretty facelift with its new QuickBooks Accounting 2009 for Mac edition. Not only does the user interface utilize Mac OS X's Leopard look and feel, but it also it now sports handy new features that are exclusive to the Mac platform.

It may be hip to go Apple, but companies need software that's compatible with Mac computer systems, and the software industry is finally responding to the call.

A group of five enterprise software companies on Monday announced the creation of the Enterprise Desktop Alliance to facilitate the acceptance of Macintosh computers in organizational environments managed with Microsoft Windows. The alliance was created by Atempo, Centrify, Group Logic, LANrev and Parallels.

Three interesting topics were kicked around in Apple-minded blogs this week. Entirely unsurprisingly, survey results show that Apple tech support kicks butt in the PC industry at large. Also, AT&T is forbidding vacation time to hapless iPhone salespeople, and it appears Macs have gotten a foot in the door at work.

Three months ahead of its official launch, the test version of iPhone's Software Development Kit is luring developers by the thousands -- tens of thousands, actually. More than 100,000 developers downloaded the beta version of the iPhone 2.0 software, which bears the enterprise-supporting SDK, in the first four days it was available, Apple said Wednesday.

Apple has delivered a major upgrade to Xsan, the company's enterprise-class storage area network file system for Mac OS X. Called "Xsan 2," the upgrade includes completely redesigned administration tools, which Apple said make it even easier for first-time users to set up and deploy a SAN.
