Continuing to cater to its core server audience, Dell announced new PowerEdge servers and management software aimed at small and midsize businesses, and also pledged support for the low-price servers and their 64-bit capabilities. Dell unveiled the PowerEdge 6800 and 6850 -- priced at about US$4,000 and $4,900 -- and said the Intel Xeon-based servers would be ideal for database environments, server consolidation and virtualization, and migration from RISC-based systems. Microsoft has announced the release of its Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), but has noted that Microsoft CRM 1.0 and 1.2 are not compatible with the update yet. The company has stated that enhanced security features in SP2 changes some of the default behaviors of Internet Explorer and desktop security zones. As a result, Microsoft CRM customers have been advised not to download the update because it will conflict with the CRM application. [More...]
