EC Prevails in Mobile Roaming Fee Fracas

The EU was entitled to cap roaming rates in 2007 as network operators pocketed huge profits but resisted less drastic ways to cut the sky-high costs of using mobile phones in Europe, the EU advocate general said Thursday. The opinion by Advocate General Miguel Poiares Maduro now goes to the European Court of Justice, which often follows that advice.
Verizon Denies Palm Snub, Will Add Pre in January

Verizon and Palm are reportedly scrapping over terms of a contract that would give the carrier the right to offer Palm's Pre smartphone. Back in May, Lowell McAdam, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, said the carrier would offer the Pre in January. Reports that Verizon changed its mind appeared in the media Thursday. Verizon, however, expects to offer the Pre as planned.

Korean Telecom Bouncers Lift Velvet Rope for iPhone

South Korea's telecommunications regulator said Wednesday that Apple can sell its hit iPhone in the country -- potentially shaking up a cellphone market controlled by domestic manufacturers. The development comes a month after Apple cleared the way to enter China's massive cellphone market as well.

Palm Washes Hands of WinMo as Losses Mount

It's back to the future for Palm, which is dropping Microsoft's Windows Mobile in favor of its own proprietary platform, webOS, unveiled earlier this year. Palm CEO John Rubinstein reportedly told investors in a conference call on Thursday that the company wants to dedicate all of its future development resources to WebOS evolution.
HP Launched the Craziest DreamScreen Last Night

HP has just made either the most hyperactive digital picture frame on the market or the lamest tablet PC ever. The DreamScreen looks sort of like what you'd have if someone tore an HP Mini in two and handed you the monitor side. It's a device that can run video, show pictures and play music with built-in speakers. It has USB ports and it can hold 2 GB of data.

Analysts Set High Bar for AAPL

It's a good time to be holding Apple stock -- analysts are more bullish than ever on the company. The most eye-catching statement came on Tuesday from Needham's Charlie Wolf, who predicted that Apple will trade at $235 in the next year. Meanwhile, iSuppli says Apple will remain partners with wireless carrier AT&T, which is frantically upgrading its networks.
T-Mobile's Sprint Ambitions Fraught With Peril

The parent company of T-Mobile, the fourth-largest U.S. wireless company, is considering a bid for Sprint Nextel, the carrier just north of it on the size chart, according to a British newspaper. Deutsche Telekom could make the offer within the next few weeks, it said. Such a deal, if it were to happen, would create a large and potentially strong player.
