Cybernet Gets Distribution Support For Linux Servers

As the Linux Business Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada drew to a close, Cybernet Systems Corp. announced that it has garnered distribution support for its NETMAX open-source servers series from Ingram Micro, Frank Kasper & Associates and Navarre Corporation.

The deals, along with several retail agreements, will help to push the "easy-to-use Linux server software" product line to small and medium-sized businesses that are looking for an inexpensive and simplified way to gain an online presence. The Cybernet products include NetMAX WebServer, NetMAX FileServer and NetMAX FireWall.

"We recognize the importance of ensuring the efficient and reliable distribution of NetMAX products to retail outlets in order to maintain their current level of success," commented Greg Emery, Cybernet Systems' senior vice president. "Meeting consumer demand is our top priority, and we can do it by working with high-caliber distributors such as Ingram Micro, Navarre and Frank Kasper for our VAR and retail partners."

"Simplifying Linux"

Cybernet's NetMAX product line consists of, according to the company, "the first Linux-based thin servers to hit the market." The products offer the ability to quickly and economically configure a Web, file or firewall server, working with the intrinsic customizability of the Linux open-source OS.

The NetMAX pre-configured Web server for Linux product, which Cybernet boasts can be installed in 15 minutes, is based on the Red Hat Linux distribution. Launched in October, the NetMAX products, including the FTP and FireWall offerings, can be installed stand alone or in combination and carry a sub-$100 (US$) price tag.

Retail Channels

Pursuant to several new agreements, Internet-centric businesses, including e-commerce operations, can now access the NetMAX products through such retail channels as CompUSA (NYSE: CPU), CDW Computer Centers (Nasdaq: CDWC), Fry's Electronics, LinuxMall.com and MicroWarehouse (Nasdaq: MWHS).

"Cybernet's line of NetMAX server products are excellent tools for people who want to set up their own servers with a minimum of hassle and maximum results," stated Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier, vice president of marketing for LinuxMall.com.

E-commerce portal LinuxMall.com staged a re-launch of its site this week in conjunction with key investor and partner SCO. Features of the re-designed site include an online manual for newbies, as well as entertainment and Linux resources sections.
