Re: Linaro, ARM and the Road to Total Linux Domination
11/09/12 12:31 PM PT | LinuxInsider Talkback Forum | 207 Words

Intel is so far ahead of everyone, including AMD, when it comes to IPC it isn't even funny, which is why they are working on PPW or performance per watt.

Look up the features that are coming in the next...

I was back to a simple benefits vs cost evaluation when making a choice.

Its sad but Kronos has really hindered FOSS gaming by holding back OpenGL to favor the CAD devs and forcing the hardware OEMs to use extensions, which means it may work one way on AMD, another on Nvidia, and a third way...

Except for a few tiny overlaps, just as a truck and a moped can both take you somewhere, ARM and X86 simply aren't in competition. nobody is gonna want to do their photoshopping or Quickbooks or frankly most of the programs folks use daily on an ARM PC Pogson, you will simply NEVER get an ARM CPU to do the instructions per cycle or IPC of even a Core 1, much less a modern chip from AMD ...

Give me a linux OS that is all GUI, intuitive, and will run on these hundreds of millions of Pentium and AMD single core laptops and desktops that are about to be EOL. Make it so simple my grandma could understand it without...

I switched my shop to 100% AMD a couple of year ago and my customers couldn't be happier. When I can hand them a fully loaded triple for $450, a fully loaded quad for $525? That does full 1080p, hooks to their new...

Run it on an AMD Fusion laptop, and you will cripple your laptop performance. Fedora 15 won't put the laptop I am using this on to sleep. Ubuntu 11.04 will tell me that my laptop is on mute mode when it is not.

So I thought I'd actually listen to all the (what I later found out was total lies) of the FOSS community and try selling and supporting some Linux boxes, oh what a bad joke that was! Out of the half a dozen machines I set up, ALL with bog standard parts like Realtek, Broadcom, SiS, AMD, ...

As AMD and Intel and Nvidia have shown us with Fusion, Sandy Bridge, and Tegra respectively the future is LESS chips not more.

I truly believe the future will be integrated wireless just as we once all had to buy sound...

The same technology that permits netbooks to use so little power and the quad-core CPU to be so powerful can be turned to produce single-chip motherboards for thin clients that use very little power. AMD has been reluctant to jump on the netbook...
